We have roughly 25 email domains across the company and we have them all routed through Sophos Email Gateway.
  • Monitors and protects inbound/outbound emails very well.
  • Policies are flexible and easy to manage.
  • Works well with Office 365.
  • Dashboard layout is nice and informative.
  • Reporting could be more granular, it's the most glaring weakness of the product.
  • The ability to drill down into data from the dashboard would be very helpful for reporting as well.
  • Reverse AD sync so when active directory users are removed, they are removed from Sophos as well would be helpful.
It's well suited in our environment of multiple email domains. The ability to add banners showing that emails came from outside the organization is extremely helpful to our users. The control of policies and settings is very easy to manage and it has been fairly easy to implement in our Office 365 environment.

I can't think of a scenario where Sophos Email would not be appropriate if you're looking for a solid, well-built, and well-performing spam filter/email gateway.

  • It has caught a ton of malicious emails since implementation, it's scary to think how many were getting through before we started using it.
  • It's reduced the clutter of users' mailboxes, reducing the amount of spam and junk that was making it through.
  • We have more peace of mind that we're protecting ourselves much better than we were before.
We've had to make a couple of support calls for assistance with the product and with setting it up to work with Office 365. Each call was handled promptly and the techs handled our issues quickly and efficiently.
It's mostly great and for policies and features, it does everything we would ask it to and more. The only thing keeping it from being a 10 is the lack of granularity in the reporting, which is actually an issue within Sophos Central as a whole. The ability to drill down from dashboards into accurate, detailed data would be very helpful at times.

Sophos Secure Email Gateways, helped us to address encryption issues as well preventing phishing, scams, and malware. Adoption, setup, and use are very intuitive. The dashboard is easy to navigate. Also it helped the IT department to consolidate all the email policies in one console--we have better visibility of what is going on and the areas that we need to focus on. One of the features that we liked was VIP users, which helps to protect those important mailboxes from spoofing.

We had tried Broadcom (formerly Message Labs). It lacks encryption, and the customer service and invoices were terrible. The console was outdated and not easy to navigate. We were limited to a few options and very basic options when it came to troubleshooting or managing users. For us it wasn't cost effective to keep this product, so we decided to switch.

It was easy to use and easy to implement. You don't need previous knowledge on the products, after we got this up and running, it took us hours to put everything together. The transition was easy and seamless.

We had successes implementing others Sophos products, such as Antivirus, encryption, and UTM, so it was natural to consolidate those products on one console.
Implementing this sooner, so we could see the benefit early on. It would also allow us to minimize ticket during this COVID pandemic since we have to support remote clients a lot.
